Delivering Strength at Scale with Light Gauge Steel

Large‑Scale Steel Framing Systems | Built for Volume Construction

As construction projects increase in scale and complexity, Light Gauge Steel has become the preferred framing solution for developers and builders delivering repeatable, high‑quality outcomes at speed. At Dynamic Steel Frame, we design, manufacture, and deliver Light Gauge Steel framing systems purpose‑built for large‑scale residential and commercial construction.

This project highlights how Light Gauge Steel construction enables strength, precision, and efficiency across multi‑dwelling developments — without sacrificing buildability or compliance.

Why Light Gauge Steel Is the Smart Choice for Large‑Scale Builds

Large projects demand consistency. Traditional materials struggle to deliver accuracy and speed at volume — but TRUECORE®light gauge steel framing excels at scale.

By using cold‑formed Light Gauge Steel, we provide structural systems that are:

  • Engineered for accuracy – straight, true, and dimensionally precise
  • Manufactured off‑site for consistent quality and faster builds
  • Lightweight yet high‑strength, reducing crane time and handling risk
  • Repeatable and scalable across hundreds of dwellings

This makes Light Gauge Steel the ideal material for townhouses, apartments, and multi‑stage developments.

Large Scale Townhouse Project BIM Design Technology

Engineering Light Gauge Steel for Strength and Repeatability

Every light gauge steel frame is digitally engineered using BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology before it is manufactured. Our in‑house team coordinates closely with project engineers, architects, and builders to ensure load paths, connections, and tolerances are optimised for both compliance and constructability.

For large‑scale projects, this means:

  • Consistent structural performance across every dwelling
  • Simplified approvals and engineering certification
  • Reduced on‑site modifications and RFIs
  • Faster installation timelines from slab to lock‑up

The result is predictable delivery at scale, powered by light gauge steel systems designed to work flawlessly across repeatable modules.

Precision Manufacturing of Light Gauge Steel Frames

All framing components are manufactured using advanced roll‑forming technology, producing light gauge steel wall frames, floor systems, and roof trusses to exact specifications.

Our manufacturing process ensures:

  • Tight tolerances and repeatable geometry
  • Minimal material waste
  • Faster on‑site assembly
  • Consistent quality across high‑volume projects

This level of precision allows builders to maintain momentum, even as project size increases.

Faster Installation with Light Gauge Steel Construction

On site, light gauge steel framing systems install faster and cleaner than traditional construction methods. Lightweight components are easier to handle, allowing crews to frame efficiently without heavy lifting equipment on every stage.

Key benefits during installation include:

  • Reduced labour requirements
  • Safer manual handling
  • Faster program milestones
  • Earlier access for follow‑on trades

For developers, this translates to shorter construction programs and improved cost certainty.

Delivering Confidence on Large‑Scale Light Gauge Steel Projects

Building at scale requires confidence — in the structure, the supplier, and the process.

With light gauge steel, Dynamic Steel Frame delivers:

  • Proven systems designed specifically for volume construction
  • Seamless coordination from design through to installation
  • Structural reliability backed by engineering expertise
  • Frames that arrive ready to install, not adjust

These projects demonstrates how light gauge steel construction provides the strength, speed, and control required for modern large‑scale developments.

Engineering Spotlight: Light Gauge Steel Truss Lift Module Design & Installation

When delivering heavy‑duty lifting solutions, precision engineering and expert installation are essential. This project — completed with AMS Constructions at Wendy’s Bayswater — showcases how Light Gauge Steel (LGS) systems can be engineered to handle extreme loads while maintaining accuracy, safety, and efficiency on site.

High‑Strength Light Gauge Steel Design: Engineered for an 8‑Tonne Load

Both lift modules were designed using Light Gauge Steel trusses engineered to support an 8‑tonne design load. Early structural planning allowed our team to develop four purpose‑built lifting trusses capable of distributing weight safely and maintaining stability throughout the lift.

To achieve this performance, the LGS trusses incorporated:

  • Additional scabs for reinforced strength
  • Increased screw connections to manage high‑stress zones
  • Detailed engineering to meet lifting and structural compliance standards

These enhancements ensure each light gauge steel truss performs reliably during lifting, positioning, and final installation.

Scab Reinforcement: Critical Strengthening for Light Gauge Steel Trusses

A key feature of the design is the use of scab reinforcement — added steel plates that strengthen high‑stress regions of the truss. In Light Gauge Steel construction, scabs increase local stiffness and thickness, allowing the structure to:

  • Distribute forces more evenly
  • Reduce deformation and connection failure
  • Support additional screw fixings for improved load transfer

This reinforcement ensures each LGS truss maintains structural integrity throughout the lift and installation process.

Module 1: Heavy, Irregular, and Complex to Install

The first module weighed nearly 6 tonnes and featured an irregular geometry, making the installation particularly challenging. Precision was essential during the lowering and alignment phase.

Successful installation required:

  • Rigorous lift planning
  • Specialised rigging adjustments
  • Close coordination between engineers, crane operators, and installation crews

Light Gauge Steel Module 2 - Pre lift

Detailing Insights: Coordinating Light Gauge Steel Design

Throughout the design phase, our detailing team worked closely with engineers and consultants to manage design changes, maintain buildable geometry, and ensure accurate load paths.

Key detailing considerations included:

  • Aligning the LGS frame with architectural and mechanical requirements
  • Refining lift methodology to reduce rigging complexity
  • Ensuring constructability across all stages of the project

Originally, the drive‑thru beams were planned to be lifted with the trusses, but the method was optimised to lift only the trusses — improving control and reducing risk.

Design Improvements for Efficient Fabrication & Installation

To streamline both fabrication and on‑site installation, several optimisations were introduced:

  • Modularising long LGS lifting trusses into 200 kg sections for easier handling
  • Optimising truss profiles to reduce weight (targeting 80 kg per truss)
  • Standardising truss heights on irregular modules to simplify alignment

These refinements improved efficiency without compromising structural performance.

Engineering Challenges: Cranked Beams & Canopy Integration

The oversized drive‑through canopy required cranked beams, adding complexity to the detailing process. Determining whether these components should be lifted with the trusses required careful coordination to avoid clashes and ensure safe, buildable outcomes.

Coordination Across All Project Stages

Design Stage
  • Close collaboration with project managers and consultants
  • Ensuring the LGS frame aligned with architectural intent
  • Managing critical mechanical interfaces
Installation Stage
  • Rapid response to site queries
  • Providing immediate solutions to maintain installation momentum
  • Capturing feedback for continuous improvement

“This project was a great learning experience — the first of its kind I’ve detailed. The lessons gained will strengthen how I approach coordination, constructability, and standardisation on future modules.” — Su, Detailer
